Did Christmas change, or just me?
For those of you who didn’t get the hilarity of the title, it’s from the song “where are you christmas”. Something has really been bugging me. People get mad when they say “OMG aren’t you excited about christmas???” and I say “umm no”. Christmas doesn’t have any meaning for me or anyone else for that matter.
The other day, I was driving down Michigan Avenue, and I passed a strip club. I read the sign. It said “Christmas Party and Naked Girls”. Enough said.
I hate christmas now. I use to like it, before I started to notice how commercial it became. If kids weren’t brats before christmas, get them what they are begging for and they will. Teach them what christmas is all about….presents, food, lights, and “holiday” sales.
I’m Muslim, so christmas doesn’t have the same meaning for me as it SHOULD for many people but I know when something becomes ridiculous.
ok so now i get that trees are grown for the purpose of christmas, but we grow them just to destroy them?
Now, I only started to notice how bad things were getting when I walked into my house yesterday and I heard my mom’s friend laughing and going on about how much fun she was having. I walked into the living room and saw this…..

I mean seriously, we haven’t had a tree in over 10 years. Now we have this thing in the middle of our ooblakin living room! What is that garbage on the table? oh and look at the windows….someone actually put fake frost stuff up.
I’m so annoyed.
Does anyone else get annoyed with how much christmas is changing?

Actually, real trees are more environmentally friendly than fake trees. My family and I always get a real tree, but rather than taking it the dump when we’re done with it, we take it to a place that turns the trees into mulch and woodchips.
But I get what you’re saying. I was actually telling my mom the other day how frustrated I am at how commercialized Christmas is becoming. It’s no longer about spending time with family and loved ones. It’s no longer about family traditions. And it’s certainly no longer about the birth of Jesus. It’s all about xboxes and wii’s and retail madness, and that perfect family portrait that you’ll send to everybody, who’ll most likely throw it away or only display it when you come over. It’s all about christmas parties where the guests get liquored up from the eggnog. Like, you go into a store, and everything says “happy holidays”, but the backdrop is red and green and there’s a christmas tree next to the phrase. So really, they mean merry christmas, but are just trying to be politically correct. I went into the mall yesterday, and there was of course the santa photo station, and christmas decorations everywhere. I went over by barnes and noble, and they just had one little menorah. Again, to be politically correct. I was happy that my mall was at least recognizing that it’s also hanukkah, but disappointed that there was such an abundance of christmas decorations, and just this one, single, solitary menorah. I actually got mad at my mom, because she’s been going out of her way all week making cookies and pies and getting ready to make a giant turkey dinner, because that’s what you’re “supposed” to make, but I was like “can’t you make lasagne and meatballs like you always make?” It’s a tradition… we always have a big Italian meal, because we’re Italian, and we make the family recipes. But she’s like “oh, well not everyone likes lasagne and meatballs, so I’m making a turkey and stuffing instead.” It’s like, screw them, let them make their own damn turkey, I want our family traditions! Okay, I’m rambling…. but what I’m trying to say is… it’s certainly an annoying holiday for non-Christians, but take it from me, who is a Christian– it’s heartbreaking to see my religion and beliefs exploited the way they are by not only corporate America, but by the entire world. I don’t need presents or turkey dinners or even christmas decorations or christmas movies or christmas songs. I don’t need santa and reindeer and all that jazz. I just need this simple story, b/c this is what christmas is supposed to be all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKk9rv2hUfA
I’m not annoyed with Christmas, I’m annoyed with what it has become. I think it’s great that Christians celebrate the holiday but now in order to “celebrate” you have to spend an arm and a leg.
Lol that seriously cracked me up XP A tree in the middle of your living room
I actually got up at 3 am just to try to move it to the side but my mom woke up and said “don’t even think about it”. It was hilarious.
haha! Yeah, we don’t stick our tree in the middle of the room, we put it in the corner of our family room, so that way you can see it, but it’s not in everyone’s way.
my mom’s friend thought it was hilarious.
lol, I would’ve been annoyed and tried to move it too. Oh, and remind me to tell you the story of the 12-foot tree we bought once… I’ll probably make that my blog tomorrow
hahaha for suuurrreee
oh and i will get those gifts to you. I don’t know if the post office is open today but I bet it’s packed.
OMGSH! It’s in front of your couch??? I’m Christian and I celebrate Christmas and we don’t even put ours in front of our couch X_X
two or three days before winter break, we had an advisory period at our school. to start things off, the teacher went around the room and asked everybody, “what is your name? what are you gonna do for the holidays?”
she came to me. i bet she was expecting some answer like, “oh, i’m gonna spend quality time with my family by going to church and eating out with them.” or some crappy answer like that. instead, i replied with, “uh. i’m just gonna relax?” hahah. she was really annoyed with my answer.
because seriously, i’m also a muslim, and we obviously don’t do christmas. i’m not in the ~traditional holiday spirit~ when winter break comes, if you get me.
oh, this video made me sick…
and it was one of those “recommended for you” videos on youtube… um, seriously?
that was ridiculous. I almost stopped it in the beginning…
i love christmas,
youre just being a moany twit!
aww you’re so sweet. I hope you get what you want for Christmas…..
2 words:
R-Patz sucks >.<
…BIG TIME!
And that’s not even 2 words. Man, I suck!
I was kidding
it would be kinda funny… yeah we usually have a tree up.. but we don’t do much after that. no other deco’s..
“i love christmas,
youre just being a moany twit!”
“aww you’re so sweet. I hope you get what you want for Christmas…..”
ha ha ha ha
i know…..
Ahaha, wow your tree is … awesome. At first I thought it was someone dressed as a Christmas tree until I realised that it was just smacked in the middle of a livingroom. But hey, there’s an idea, get into the tree and like scare the dickens out of your Mum and theeeeeeen she’ll let your move it? But I have fake frost on my windows too, only, I’m the one who actually sprays it
.
lol!
I get bored sometimes, and I get free time. And then I see a pen.
And baam, it all comes together on my hand o_O lol
The chat was a lot of fun. =D
We all have to do that again. lol
I would host one but I wouldn’t have anyone there lol
Christmas annoys me too how everyone gets hyped up about it, since I’m Christian I do celebrate it but what I find most ridiculous about Christmas is that it’s not even a Christian holiday, it’s Pagan. Jesus was born in the fall but in December there was the solstice festival which is when you give presents, through the years marketing picked it up and now it’s known as Christmas. That’s a pretty bad explanation so sorry if you don’t understand it but I just think it’s stupid how from a young age I, a Christian, was forced to believe that were celebrating the life of Jesus (which I totally dont understand, why are we getting presents for someone else’s birthday??? Its distressing hahaha) when were celebrating a holiday from another religion which than was adopted by marketing so they could make a few million dollars. True holiday spirit right there folks!
First I love that song.
Second, I agree with you on the Christmas meaning nothing.
Its just another overly commercialized hallmark holiday, like Valentines Day.
The best thing about Christmas is the food. Its kind of strange for me though, I dread Christmas coming, and when it does my body forces me to be happy. It just irritates me how we need all of these holidays to be close to family, shouldn’t we just be close?
I can’t comment on Christine’s lovely new wordpress layout. Just wanted to say, it’s really cool! Hope you get everything up in time ^_^
