I’m right, right? Wrong!
Brothers on a Hotel Bed-Death Cab for Cutie
Ok, first of all, sorry for the delay. I was kinda…..well….not in the mood to blog because 1. I have nothing going on and 2. I’m lazy.
Secondly, I got the BEST gift from Christine for Christmas/my bday. It’s a book entitled: “The Book of General Ignorance”. It’s filled with facts that we, as people, are wrong about. It’s perfect for me because I question EVERYTHING. My friends are starting to get annoyed :-/
That leads me to the main point of my blog. Recently a friend of mine posted a status on facebook that said “I think, therefore I am”. Now me, being the philosophy major decided to engage in some friendly discussion….
well today, someone decided to join in the LONG discussion and throw in religion. Now I’m pretty religious myself but they started to quote people and I suggested that they throw what other people said out the window and use logic to decide for themselves. They got angry and started to use mean words and what not. Well, I quickly ended the conversation with my smart-alec mouth and moved on.
The point I want to make is you have to question EVERYTHING. If you don’t, you are going to be left doing what other people did, without knowledge of why you did or are doing it. In my Ethics class, our teacher told us a story….i managed to dig out a visual example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZ02twfwumc
if you don’t question what you do, you could be doing something that is outdated, useless, aimless, or even horrible. If it is so right, then what is wrong with questioning?
Well after my last blog, I don’t know if I should post more conversations but if you want me to, I will.
Let me know what you think. What do you question? Do you think it’s wrong to question?
I’m warning you now, I will reply to whatever I think will make you THINK. Don’t get offended PLEASE!

I question lots of things. I question why some countries are rich, and some countries are poor. I think it’s safe to say, despite our current financial situation, that we (the United States) are a pretty rich country. But then you look at countries in Africa and Asia that are just ravaged with famine and disease. I know a lot of it has to do with political corruption, but it’s not like the U.S. doesn’t have its share of political corruption, yet we seem to be doing okay, compared to other countries. Now call me naive, but I never understood why some countries just refuse to “civilize”. It’s like, look at us, and then look at yourself… don’t we seem to be much better off? Don’t you want what we have? But some countries seem so wrapped up in their customs and traditions that they refuse to modernize and adapt. I’m not saying to throw customs and traditions out the window, but if acclimating to new technologies and new times will lead to a better life, then why not make some changes? Why stay stuck in your outdated way of life? Sometimes I think, “If only we could do more to help…”, but there’s just some countries that don’t want our help, and like things the way they are. And I just never understood it. Granted, I’m often one to say “let the U.S. focus on the U.S., and the other countries focus on themselves,” because, frankly, I’m kind of sick of everyone expecting the U.S. to jump to everyone’s rescue, like we’re God or something, but when it comes to human rights, I think it is everyone’s (globally) duty to take a stance in helping to better and improve someone’s life, and I think those countries in need should be willing to move forward in a modern and positive direction. Wow, that was long. I’ve got a whole bunch more questions, too…
I almost feel like I didn’t make any sense, and contradicted myself… bleh, I’m bad at this.
ha.
If you stop blogging, I will personally come all the way over from England and murder you.
I agree with Christine on a lot of those excellent points stated. You know Christine? You judge yourself to harshly when in fact, you’re absolutely wonderful ^____^
Sometimes I wonder too why people feel that by changing, and it’s usually always for the better, that damnation will be brought upon them. However, I remember this old saying in Arabic and it refers to the Bedouins who have lived in the dessert for generations on end and that still do so today and it says that you can take the Bedouin out of the country/dessert but you can’t take the country/dessert out of the Bedouin. I guess change comes to quickly for some people, they’ve been let down on so many countless occasions that they’ve stopped caring what is which and which is what. That in itself is depressing but then you start thinking and questioning so many other things that by the end of it all, you wish that you’d never started. It’s almost physically tiring >..<
Well Christine….I can see what you are saying but have you stopped to think that maybe what works for us is not what can work for other countries? First think of how the US began…what was our goal? We started our customs and traditions. Other countries might not have the means (it’s very expensive to get where we are) or the will to “civilize” themselves.
My grandmother goes back to where she was born, grew up, lived every month because it’s what she loves. To her, the customs and traditions keep her history alive. Yes, there are a lot of problems in the country but there are problems everywhere. I mean if the US was in such great shape, would we have the kind of stats we have now?
Fatima….I agree……Christine RULES!
yes, I agree too… I rule
I see what you’re saying, but sometimes I just wish other struggling countries were as fortunate as us.
^then we wouldn’t be having this convo. ^^
